Bonnie Ford ’79

Some of us remember Bonnie’s distinctive voice from the radio blasts of sports coverage for WOBC.  It turns out, the experience foreshadowed her successful career as a journalist.  She specializes in long form features and investigative journalism.

She spends free time trying to re-learn the guitar, listening to music, and exploring new places.  Staying fit takes the form of paddle boarding and tending her herb and flower garden.

Bonnie credits Oberlin with setting her on a path to being a sports journalist.  She joined the board of the Heisman Club in recognition of those life-defining Oberlin years.

She is deeply grateful to Dick Michaels for teaching her what real coaching and true mentorship are all about.  She keeps strong ties with him and with his athletes.

“I used to think women’s sports would always be relegated to hobby status. NOW I think they are an integral part of the lives of so many young women growing up in America - although we can do better.”
