Club Sports Report 10/31/16
Upcoming Events:
Nov 5th: Flaming Blades tournament at Case Western Reserve University; Cleveland, Ohio
Archery was small this week, an intimate gathering of four. We gossiped and chatted as we waited turns to shoot. The weather had taken a warmer turn than the last few days, and everyone was experiencing a collective feeling of relief. We have begun matching people to bows on a more regular basis, so marksmanship had also improved. Next week, we'll begin using a hex-wrench to adjust sights for people, tuning their bows for them.
The Equestrian Team had a fabulous time at Lake Erie College's hunter show this weekend! Everyone rode wonderfully in their classes, especially third-year Emma Schecter, who placed first in her jumping level! As always, it is lovely spending time together as a team.
The Flaming Blades returned to practice this week after a respectable showing at the October 16, OSU tournament and the conclusion of fall break. Big thanks to the twelve dedicated fencers who delayed their return home to compete; the timing this year was trickier than most, but we're very happy that we fielded two full and four partial squads. But there's no rest for the fencing team! We have another tournament at Case Western this coming Saturday, November 5. Wish us luck!
The Manti and Horsecows (women's and men's ultimate)Â hosted the legendary and headless-horseman themed tournament Force Freedom this weekend. The players: Oberlin X and Y, University of Michigan B team and Denison. The results: while the first day was gloriously warm and sunny we were finally beaten the second day by some impromptu hail and lightning, forcing the tournament to come to an early end with Oberlin Y and Denison headed to the championship match. It would have surely been a showdown to remember!Â
The equestrian team had a great weekend competing in the hunt seat IHSA show at Stonegate Farms over October 15 and 16. Despite it being the start of our fall break, several riders decided to wait to head home until after the competition. Sophomore Lauren Fries placed second in both of her Walk-Trot classes, and it was her first hunt seat show ever! The entire team had great rides, and junior Tess Jewell qualified for regionals in Novice Fences.
The dressage team is working hard to get ready for their first shows of the fall. They will be competing in the intercollegiate show at Otterbein University on October 29 and 30. They will also be competing in the Chagrin schooling show on November 6.
