Williams Field House officially opened with a ribbon cutting on April 24, 2009 in front of a crowd of athletes, coaches, administrators, faculty and staff.  The highly anticipated opening came after the closing of Jones Field House in the spring of 2008.  While the building will be available for use by all varsity and club sports, the primary tenants will be Baseball, Softball, Men's Lacrosse and Women's Lacrosse.  Below are some of the details of this renovated facility:

Playing Surface

The playing surface is a monofilament infill turf from Tiger Turf Worldwide.  The surface is 90’x185’ (16,650 square feet) and is in filled with rubber granules to replicate the play of a natural surface.

LEED Gold Certified
Williams Field House is the first LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified building on campus.  Developed by the U.S. Green Building Council, the certification verifies that a building or community was designed and built using strategies aimed at improving performance across all the metrics that matter most: energy savings, water efficiency, CO2 emissions reduction, improved indoor environmental quality, and stewardship of resources and sensitivity to their impacts. HVAC
While the building doe not have an air conditioning unit, it remains remarkably cool do to the 4 large fans and the 64 remote controlled skylights.  The building also has operable windows along the east and west sides to promote air flow.

Lighting
The lighting of the facility is designed to take advantage of the natural light from windows and skylights.  The lights are equipped with sensors, which will measure the total light on the playing surface.  Once the foot-candles reach 100, the lights will begin to turn off and therefore reduce energy consumption.
