Yeo Top 10 Countdown: No. 8: Arthur Runs his Way to Two All-America Awards

Oberlin, Ohio – The No. 8 moment from 2014-15 takes us through the season-long journey for junior runner Geno Arthur.

Already one of the most accomplished male distance runners in school history, Arthur soared onto the national landscape this past year with his performances on the biggest of stages.

In the late fall, Arthur became just the third male in school history to earn All-America honors at the cross country national meet, kicking his way to a 19th-place finish in a time of 24:29.22. He joined Hugh Finn and Allen Smith as the only three Yeomen in school history to place in the top-20 at the national meet, as Finn was 20th at the 1995 Championships, while Smith was 17th in 1973.

Arthur continued to impress throughout the indoor track and field season, earning NCAC Distance Runner of the Year honors before heading to the national meet.

On March 13, 2015, at the NCAA Indoor Championships, Arthur ran the best race of his career, shattering his own school record in the 5,000 meters with a time of 14:29.04 to place third overall.

The Camarillo, California, native, ran an absolutely flawless race. Sitting in the middle of the pack until the 10-minute mark, he made a move on the outside to get into eighth position. He then turned on the jets around the 12-minute mark and inserted himself into the lead group, passing four other runners along the way.

Despite not feeling 100-percent for much of the spring outdoor season, Arthur still displayed his toughness by qualifying for nationals in the 5,000 where he placed 18th in the country.

With his senior season set to begin in a few short weeks, Arthur will be preparing himself for another year that should feature multiple All-America awards.
