Canton, N.Y. – On the final day of the 2015 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, senior Carey Lyons and first-year Monique Newton finished the season by earning All-American accolades.

The prestigious honor comes after Lyons placed seventh in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase and Newton propelled her way into the Oberlin track and field history books, finishing fourth in the women's shot put.

After qualifying seventh in the steeplechase following Thursday's preliminary run, Lyons battled to break her own school record on Saturday afternoon. Everything was going well for Lyons as she hung around the front of the pack early on. On the third lap of the 9 ½ lap trek, Lyons got tripped up and fell to the track.

Determined, the Tacoma, Washington native kick into overdrive and ran the bell lap in a blistering 77 seconds to crack into the top eight and register her first All-American performance on the track with a record time of 10:42.77.

Lyons trimmed over two and a half seconds off of her qualifying time to re-break her own record, which she set Thursday.

Along with completing the grueling 3,000 steeplechase in thrilling fashion, Lyons went on to run the women's 5k, finishing in a time of 18:09.71.

Newton showed great resilience and courage in the shot put after missing out on a top eight finish in the hammer throw Thursday. Sitting in ninth and on the outside looking in with one throw remaining, Newton unleashed everything she had left to give.

Her sixth and final throw of the 2015 Championships soared 46-11.50 (14.31m), propelling her into fourth place overall. Newton's All-American performance marks the first for an Oberlin thrower since the early 90's, and again places her atop the program record books.

The only Yeoman to travel to New York, junior distance stud Geno Arthur, ran to an 18th place finish in the men's 5,000 meters to close out the year for Oberlin College track and field. Arthur crossed the line at 15:19.23, missing the chance to double up on track and field All-American performances.
