Upperclassmen Lead Cross Country at the 2014 Gil Dodds Invite

Wheaton, IL – The senior quartet of Kyle Neal, Emma Lehmann, Sarah Jane Kerwin and Carey Lyons all finished inside the top ten to lead Oberlin women's cross country at the Gil Dodds Invite hosted by Wheaton College. On the men's side the duo of Geno Arthur and Joshua Urso led the way with a pair of top 15 finishes on Saturday morning.

In the team standings, the Oberlin women finished tied for first with 45 points. The sixth-ranked Yeowomen shared the top spot with No. 19 Washington (Mo.), but bested University of Chicago, ranked fourth by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

"Great day for our women and our seniors," said head coach Ray Appenheimer.

For the women, Neal clocked a 22:00 followed closely by Lehmann who finished in a time of 22:04. The pair claimed second and third individually.

Kerwin and Lyons also finished back-to-back in sixth and seventh. Kerwin registered a time of 22:25, followed by Lyons 22:28.

The Oberlin men had another solid outing in Illinois with a fourth place finish. Arthur led the pack with a second place finish and a time of 25:19.

Urso claimed 14th overall while E.J. Douglas earned a 16th place finish to round out the men's top three performers. Urso clocked a time of 26:26, with Douglass two seconds behind at 26:28.

The junior tandem of Robert Moreton and Sam Coates-Finke rounded out the Yeomen's top 30 finishers by placing 21st and 29th respectively. Moreton crossed the line with a time of 26:33 while Coates-Finke clocked a 27:02.

"It was a tremendous performance across the board," said Appenheimer.

Oberlin cross country will return to the course at the All-Ohio Championships hosted by Cedarville University. The first gun is set to go off at 2 p.m.
