Holland, MIThe 30th ranked Oberlin College women's tennis rallied from a 2-1 deficit after doubles play to upend the Albion College Britons, 5-2, on Friday morning at the Central Region Shootout on the campus of Hope College, and later followed with a 6-3 win over Kalamazoo College.

“We were challenged in both matches and didn't necessarily play our best tennis today,” Head Coach Constantine Ananiadis said. “These were two tough opponents, and to beat them both convincingly like we did says a lot about where we are as a team. We found different ways to get it done today with everyone in the lineup contributing in some form.”

Albion Recap

Rookie Erin Johnson provided the match-clinching point with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Marissa Messenger at No. 5 singles.

The region's No. 8 ranked player, Farah Leclercq evened the match at 2-2 by downing Marissa Cloutier 6-2, 6-3 in the top spot.

Junior Brenna Sheldon, who just earned her first-ever regional ranking (19), added a 6-4, 6-1 win over Irene Chen at No. 2, marking her fourth straight victory.

In the unfinished singles matches, Preeya Shah dropped the first set 7-6 (7-4) in the No. 4 slot against Heather Vogt, but Shah was leading the second 4-1 when the match was halted. Kalamazoo Recap

Unlike the match against the Britons, Oberlin led 2-1 after doubles play. Leclercq and Porter were 8-4 winners at No. 1, while Shah and Sheldon made short work of Jenna Riehl and Anna Latala in an 8-1 win No. 2.

In singles play, Leclercq had her six-match winning streak halted by Sarah Woods as she bested the Oberlin ace in three sets 6-1, 3-6, 6-4.

However, Leclercq's teammates picked her up by winning four of the five remaining matches. Sheldon had Riehl's number in singles play as well as she did not drop a game in a 6-0, 6-0 blanking at No. 2, while Porter completed an undefeated day with a 6-4, 6-0 victory over Kelsey Moran at No. 3. She has now won nine of her last 10 matches.

Johnson would again provide the match-clinching point with a victory at No. 5 singles by dispatching Olivia Bouchard 6-4, 6-1. Abayomi also netted her eighth win of the season with a 6-1, 6-2 dismantling of Cheryl Zhang at No. 6.
