Yeowomen Sweep Battling Bishops

Emily Fuller won two matches on Saturday including a 6-0, 6-0 shutout in sixth singles
Oberlin, Ohio – The Oberlin College women's tennis team came back strong from yesterday's late-night conference heartbreaker by sweeping Ohio Wesleyan University, 9-0, on Saturday in the John W. Heisman Field House.

"We did a good job rebounding today after our long night last night," head coach Constantine Ananiadis said. "The girls did quite well putting the Denison match behind them and taking care of business against a young OWU team."

The Yeowomen began the day by taking all three matches in doubles play. The duo of sophomore Emily Fuller and first-year Alex Kahn earned Oberlin's first win handily at third doubles, 8-0, while the ITA central region's third-ranked tandem of senior Farah Leclercq and Grace Porter went on to take No. 1 doubles, 8-2.

The Oberlin sweep continued in doubles when the first-year pair of Ariana Abayomi and Erin Johnson won at No. 2 by the score of 8-5.

Leclercq earned the Yeowomen's fourth win of the day when she took first singles, 6-1, 6-0. Porter clinched the match for Oberlin when she finished No. 2 singles with an unblemished score of 6-0, 6-0.

Abayomi followed with a victory at fourth singles, 6-2, 6-3, while Johnson turned in a win of her own at No. 3, 6-3, 6-2.

Kahn went on to take Oberlin's eighth victory of the afternoon in fifth singles by the margin of 6-1, 6-0, as Fuller rounded out the Yeowomen winners at No. 6, with the squad's second shut out of the match, 6-0, 6-0.

Oberlin will continue conference play on April 18 when it travels to Gambier, Ohio to take on Kenyon College.  The Yeowomen are set to play the central region's 12th best team at 5p.m.
