Box Score

Greencastle, Ind. - The Oberlin College women's tennis team fell to No. 5 University of Chicago in a neutral match at DePauw University, 6-3, on Saturday despite strong performances in doubles play against the region's top team.

"To lose to one of the best teams in the country in a three and a half hour match says a lot about this bunch," head coach Constantine Ananiadis said.

Senior Farah Leclercq and sophomore Grace Porter led the Yeowomen on Saturday by taking first doubles,  8-6. Junior Brenna Sheldon and senior Preeya Shah followed in second doubles with a victory in commanding fashion, 8-1.

Porter earned her second victory of the day in third singles when she defeated Kelsey McGillis, 6-3, 1-6, 6-4. Along with being part of the ITA Central Region's eighth-ranked doubles team, McGillis is also currently ranked No. 14 in the region in singles play.

"We still have a ways to go," Ananiadis said, "but this was certainly a step in the right direction."

The Yeowomen will continue their season on March 15 when they travel to Ohio Northern University for a 4:30 p.m. nonconference matchup.
