Hilton Head, S.C. – The Oberlin College women's tennis team finished out its spring trip on Thursday with a 7-2 win over St. Olaf College.
"We didn't play our best tennis today in windy conditions," head coach
Constantine Ananiadis said, "but it was still a good win for us against a very scrappy St. Olaf team."
Senior
Farah Leclercq started the Yeowomen off with a victory in No. 1 singles by taking the match 6-1, 6-0.
Sophomore
Grace Porter followed with a victory in third singles, 6-1, 6-4, while first-year
Erin Johnson earned a win of her own in No. 5 singles with a score of 6-1, 6-3.
Junior
Brenna Sheldon locked up Oberlin's fourth win in second singles when she defeated St. Olaf's Julia Ellis, 6-1, 6-3.
The Yeowomen victory was secured when senior
Preeya Shah won a battle in No. 4 singles in three sets. Shah took the first set, 7-6(5), fell in the second set, 2-6, and won the final set, 10-8, marking Oberlin's fifth win of the day and clinching the overall victory .
Leclercq and Porter continued their strong play in doubles by taking No. 1, 8-5, while the first-year duo of Johnson and
Ariana Abayomi won a close match in second doubles, 9-8(5).
Oberlin improves to 10-4 on the season. The Yeowomen's next match will be in the Central Region Shootout when they take on Albion College on April 5.
