Oberlin, Ohio – Oberlin College Delta Lodge Director of Athletics and Physical Education
Natalie Winkelfoos has named
Creg Jantz to the position of Senior Associate Director of Athletics.
Jantz comes to Oberlin after spending the last three years as the athletic director at his alma mater of nearby Midview High School. Prior to his stop at Midview, Jantz worked as the assistant athletics director and sports information director at Case Western Reserve University for 12 years.
Jantz's main duties with Oberlin will consist of cultivating relationships with Oberlin's alumni base and overseeing the John W. Heisman Club, which is the athletics department's fundraising group. Additionally, he will be tasked with generating sponsorships for the department, while spearheading its marketing efforts. He will also have supervision over select sports programs and staff.
“These are exciting times on campus as the Oberlin Illuminate campaign is in full swing,” Jantz said. “The health and wellness piece of the campaign will not only significantly affect Oberlin's intercollegiate teams and their student-athletes, but the entire campus community through the upgrade of facilities and programming. I'm very grateful to be able to be part of this and eager to help with its success.”
During his tenure leading the Middies Athletics Department, Jantz led a campaign that raised $740,000 that went towards the renovation of its football stadium with field turf, which benefits all athletics teams, extracurricular organizations and physical education courses. He was responsible for overseesing all aspects of the district's interscholastic athletic programs (grades 7-12), which included budgeting, travel, scheduling, coaching evaluations and public relations.
While at Case, as part of the senior staff of the athletics department, Jantz helped bring in $55,000 annually through his fundraising and marketing efforts. He also created and disseminated news releases on all 19 varsity sports teams at Case Western and was responsible for the maintaining the department's athletics website.
“Creg brings a wealth of knowledge with more than 20 years of experience that will certainly strengthen our entire athletics department,” Winkelfoos said. “He will be a great asset to our student-athletes, staff, alumni, and entire campus community.”
A former collegiate athlete at Ashland University, Jantz began his professional career in sports in 1995 with the Cleveland Crunch of the National Professional Soccer League where he served as the team's director of media relations.
"I am excited to start engaging with Oberlin's athletic alumni base in new and innovative ways as well as create new partnerships within the community, as well as businesses in Oberlin and beyond,” Jantz added. “Successful partnerships with all three of these groups will help in enhancing the overall experience of our student-athletes and increase exposure of the great things we are doing on and off the playing fields.”
Jantz, who graduated from Ashland in 1993 with a bachelor's degree in sports communication, will officially begin his duties with Oberlin April 8.
Winkelfoos also announced that Mike Snyder has been promoted to the position of Associate Director of Athletics for Internal Operations.
