Dayton, Ohio – The Oberlin College women's tennis team challenged themselves over the last three days, squaring off against multiple Division I foes at the Wright State Raider Invite over the weekend.
"We faced some tough competition this weekend, which we knew was going to happen,” Head Coach
Constantine Ananiadis said. “Our opponents were able to expose our weaknesses and forced us to try different things, which will be good for us in the long run. We need to get comfortable playing different styles and doing things we're not used to. That's how we'll be able to elevate our game to the next level.”
Despite the strong opponents they went up against, the Yeowomen still had some successful outcomes. Sophomore
Grace Porter highlighted the Oberlin effort as she knocked off two Division I foes and was a part of doubles win with teammate
Brenna Sheldon.
Porter upended Emily Raidt of Oakland University 4-6, 6-4 and 13-11. In the super breaker, she faced matched point trailing 9-7, but she was able to dig deep to earn the come-from-behind win. It was her second singles win on Saturday as she was also able to defeat Chelsea Girgash of Wright State 6-1, 7-6 (7-5).
On Friday
Preeya Shah and Sheldon had a close doubles match with the University of Cincinnati paring of O'Gara and Wilson before succumbing to an 8-5 setback. On Sunday, Shah also dropped a close 6-3, 7-5 match against at Bearcat foe.
The Yeowomen will conclude their fall season this coming weekend when it travels to Pittsburgh for dual matches against Robert Morris and Carnegie Mellon.
