Skillman, NJ – Earlier this month, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) named both the Oberlin College men's and women's tennis teams as an All-Academic team, while select members of each squad also garnered ITA Scholar All-America status.
Both teams earned the distinction from the ITA for accumulating a minimum team GPA of 3.2 throughout the 2011-12 academic year.
Five Yeomen were named as ITA Scholar All-Americans for registering a minimum GPA of 3.5. They were
Sam Towne,
Joe Leffler,
Shahab Raza,
Charlie Marks and
Soren Zeliger.
Like the men, the Yeowomen also had five team members named as Scholar All-Americans. They were
Rebecca Brown,
Ariel Lewis,
Brenna Sheldon Emily Thebaut and
Brie White-Dzuro.
In addition to their success in the classroom, both teams had success on the court as well. The Yeowomen went 19-6 overall and finished second in the NCAC en route to finishing the season ranked eighth in the central region. The Yeomen recorded 11 wins, marking the most victories in a season since 2006.
Currently the athletics department is conducting a national search for the next men's tennis coach as former head coach Adam Shoemaker stepped down in June to become the assistant tennis professional at Paramount Tennis Club in nearby Westlake, Ohio.
