Oberlin, Ohio – Oberlin College Head Women's Lacrosse Coach Jacqueline McDevitt will be on hand at the White House on Wednesday afternoon to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of Title IX.
The
White House Council on Women and Girls will host the commemorative event in Washington, D.C., bringing together women and men from many fields that have been greatly impacted by the passing of Title IX in 1972. Athletes, coaches, educators, administrators and many other prominent figures from the world of college athletics will meet to celebrate the achievements of those whose gateways to sports were opened by Title IX.
In just her first year as head coach of the Yeowomen, McDevitt guided the team to one of the best seasons in school history as they finished 11-5 overall and won their first conference game since 2007. Four of her players earned All-NCAC honors at season's end. For her efforts, McDevitt was also named as the North Coast Athletic Conference Coach of the Year.
“This is such a wonderful opportunity” McDevitt said. “To be a part of something that is so significant and has played such a large role in my life is truly special."
The event is scheduled to run from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. EST and will be streamed live online at
