Naperville, IL – Four Oberlin College track athletes were in action on Friday night at the North Central College Gregory Invite in effort to improve upon their national marks.
Piper Nash,
Carey Lyons and
Stephen Williams ran the 3000-meter steeplechase, while
Shawn Chrapczynski contested in the 200 meters.
Unfortunately, none of the athletes in action were able to top their previous best marks, but Head Coach
Ray Appenheimer noted that still doesn't diminish the tremendous season of them had.
Chrapczynski, a local product from Lorain, Ohio, checked in third in the 200 at 21.85, but was slightly back of his time of 21.82 that he set at the NCAC Outdoor Championships, which ranks 46th in the country.
Williams got through the steeplechase in 9:24.64 to place 15th overall, but his previous best of 9:24.13 rests outside of the nation's top 50.
Lyons clocked in at 11:18.04 to finish fourth in the steeple, while Nash was 18th at 12:00.65. Lyons' previous best of 11:12.00 that was set at the All-Ohio Championship is good for 42nd in the nation.
None of the athletes that competed today will be participating in the NCAA Championship meet next week, however sophomore Molly Marotrella will be running the 5K at the national meet.
