The Start of Tennis Season Highlights the Week in Oberlin Athletics

Oberlin, Ohio – Philips Gym will be action-packed this coming Saturday when the Oberlin College tennis teams kickoff their 2012 spring seasons with a total of three matches scheduled throughout the day. The Oberlin basketball teams will also be hosting DePauw with games scheduled at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.

Men's Basketball (6-15, 1-11 NCAC)
2/8/12 - Oberlin at Kenyon College (9-12, 3-9 NCAC) – 8 p.m.
2/11/12 - Oberlin vs. DePauw University (13-8, 7-5 NCAC) – 3 p.m.

· Junior Andrew Fox is coming off one of the best games of his career at Oberlin. The Tempe, Arizona native had a game high 22 points to go along with 12 rebounds. It was his first 20+ point and 10+ rebound game this season.
· Oberlin and Kenyon's matchup went down to the final seconds last time the two teams met. Kenyon was able to outlast the Yeomen, 73-30, despite a 26-point effort from senior Josh Merritt.
· In the last meeting with DePauw, Oberlin hung with the Tigers throughout the first half, trailing 25-20 going into the break. However, they were outscored 44-17 in the second half. The Yeomen only shot 17.39% from the floor in the second period.

Women's Basketball (6-16, 3-10 NCAC)
2/8/12 – Oberlin at Kenyon College (15-7, 8-5 NCAC) – 6 p.m.
2/11/12 - Oberlin vs. #6 DePauw University (20-1, 13-0 NCAC) – 1p.m.

· Malisa Hoak is averaging six assists over the Yeowomen's last five games. Her six assists against Ohio Wesleyan this past weekend gave her 100 on the season.
· The Yeowomen now have three players averaging over 10 points and six rebounds per game. Christina Marquette (13 ppg, 7 rpg), Allison Gannon (14.2 ppg, 6.6 rpg) and Kelly Warlich (10.5 ppg, 7.7 rpg) all are towards the top of the conference in both categories.
· DePauw brings an undefeated conference record to Oberlin this weekend. They are currently the number six team in the country, and their only loss this year came to ranked opponent Franklin.

Track and Field
2/10/12 - At Baldwin Wallace
2/10-2/11/12 – At Akron Multis
2/10-2/11/12 – At Boston University
2/11/12 – At All-Ohio Championships

· Tiffany Henry broke the weight throw record last weekend. She threw 41-05.75.
· Molly Martorella won the 800 meter race at the Findlay Open, topping numerous division one athletes.
· Stephen Williams is approaching mid season form after winning the 3000 meter race last weekend. He crossed the finish line with a time of 8:56.01.
· Shawn Chrapczynski has made a big splash in his return from injury that kept him sidelined for the first month of the season. Last weekend he jumped 21-02.75 and posted a time of 23.35 in the 200 meter dash.

Women's Tennis
2/11/12 vs. Baldwin Wallace – 9 a.m.
2/11/12 vs. Malone – 4 p.m.

· Senior Ariel Lewis will start her 2012 spring season as one of the most successful players in Oberlin history. She enters in with a career record of 73-25, including a 58-9 record at No. 1 singles.
· Last year the Yeowomen finished fourth in the NCAC with a record of 4-2 in conference play. They were 12-13 overall on the year.

Men's Tennis
2/11/12 vs. Malone – 1 p.m.

· The 2012 team will be led by senior captains Joe Leffler and Sam Towne. They bring experience and leadership to the team. Logan Chun and Charlie Marks come back as sophomores ready to break out on the scene.
· The Yeomen welcome back Ben Turchin who didn't play in the 2011 spring season.
· The team has improved on their win totals over the past few years and looks to continue building the program.
