Tartans Too Tough for Oberlin

Results

Pittsburgh, PA – The Oberlin College women's tennis team took to the road for their first dual match of the season, but the nationally ranked Tartans of Carnegie Mellon proved to be too strong as they topped the Yeowomen 8-1.

Oberlin's lone victory came in the No. 2 doubles match as Brenna Sheldon and Preeya Shah upended Angela Pratt and Brooke Tsu 8-4.

Sheldon, playing in the second singles position, also dropped a hard-fought three-set decision to Elizabeth Martin by the scores of 7-5, 2-6 and 7-10.

In the top spot, Farah Leclercq squared off against Katie Cecil, who ended the 2011-12 season ranked ninth in the country. After dropping the first set 7-5, Leclercq was defeated 6-2 in the second.

In the fourth spot, Grace Porter fell to Abbey Hamstra by identical 6-3 counts.

Rookies Erin Johnson and Ariana Abayomi played at five and six, respectively, but each were dispatched in straight sets.

Leclercq and Porter played at No. 1 doubles and fell to the pairing of Chelsea Motie and Bryn Raschke 8-3.

Oberlin will conclude its fall season tomorrow afternoon when it takes on Robert Morris.
