Oberlin, Ohio – John '61 and Carl '94 Erikson are two most accomplished men's tennis players in Oberlin College history, but their playing days didn't come to an end once they graduated from Oberlin.
The pair is regarded as the best Super Senior Father-Son doubles team in the country. Recently they completed their second straight United States Tennis Association (USTA) Gold Slam, having won four national tournaments on four different surfaces in the same year. Their latest victory also marked their ninth straight win overall.
The Eriksons, both of who are members of the Heisman Club Hall of Fame, first claimed the Indoor National Championship in March at the Cherry Hill Racquet Club in New Jersey and followed with the hard-court title in June at the Newport Beach Tennis Club in California. The third piece of the Gold Slam came in September on grass at the Piping Rock Club in Long Island New York, while the final win came on clay at the Landings Racquet Club in Sarasota, Florida in November of 2011.
The toughest test along way for the Eriksons came on the hard-court surface at the Newport Beach Tennis Club, where they earned a hard-fought three-set victory by the scores of 6-0, 6-7, 6-2 against the Quall family.
For winning their first Gold Slam in 2010, the Erikson's were invited to attend to the 2011 US Open and received special recognition from the USTA for their amazing accomplishment. (
