Ada, Ohio – The Oberlin College men's soccer team secured its first win of the season as they completely controlled the tempo in a 1-0 win over Defiance on Saturday afternoon, in their second game of the Ohio Northern Invitational.

Oberlin dominated the run of play throughout the contest, evident by a 15-2 edge in shots and a 9-2 margin in corner kicks.

Rookie Sam Winward provided the lone OC score as he beat the keeper on a breakaway play just 13:34 into the game. It was the first collegiate score for the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, native.

While the Yeomen had multiple chances to score after the initial goal, the Yellow Jackets' only real chance came off a corner kick early in the second half, but luckily Casey Douda's shot attempt was saved by an Oberlin defender on the play.

One of the Yeomen's best chances to add an insurance goal was at the 75:30 mark when Oliver Miller-Farrell sent a corner kick service to the middle of the box, but Joe Graybeal's shot was saved by the keeper and #Winward's follow attempt was denied by a Yellow Jackets' defender. Just minutes later Miller-Farrell had a shot of his own hit off of the post.

Nine different players triggered at least one shot in the game for the Yeomen with Miller-Farrell leading the way with four. Justin Griffiths was second with three.

Oberlin returns to home to host Muskingum on Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
