Oberlin, Ohio- The Oberlin College volleyball team lost their season finale to the Fighting Scots of Wooster by a score of 3-1. The scores of the sets were 17-25, 25-22, 15-25, and 11-25.
The Yeowomen once again showed the future of their core group of underclassmen, when they took down NCAC tournament qualifier Wooster in the second set. In that set, freshman
Jenna Bange had 11 assists to go along with a block assist, that scored the 24th point of the match. Sophomore
Laura Jessee was the other player that was in on the block assist, and added three kills in the set. Junior
Chinwe Okona added five kills and so did freshman
Christine Antonsen. Senior
Liz Wong, who played her final match as a Yeowomen, added two kills, two assists, and a crucial serving ace in the latter parts of the game to help the Yeowomen take the second set. The Yeowomen were down 22-21, and went on a 4-0 run to end the set and win.
For the match, Okona led the Yeowomen with 12 kills and 10 digs. Jessee added 10 kills, a serving ace and three block assists. Bange had 34 assists. Wong had six kills to go along with two assists, one block assist, and six digs. Labero
Emma Kimmel had a team high 12 digs.
The Yeowomen wrapped up a tough 2011 campaign with an overall record of 1-27, and 1-15 in the NCAC. They return a group of experienced underclassmen next year, and look to continue improving.
