Oberlin, Ohio – Oberlin College junior pitcher
Phil Brua has been named to the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) All-Mideast Region Gold Glove Team. With this award, Brua will now be nominated for the national gold glove award at his position.
Brua, a native of nearby Avon, Ohio, served as the team's closer and main reliever this season. He had a team leading 55 innings pitched in 22 total appearances with only two starts on the mound. His 2.78 earned run average led the team, as he set school records in total appearances (22) and saves (6). He also tied the school record for single season wins with six held by departing teammate
Jack Dunn.
The sidearm specialist used his athletic ability to be a defensive stalwart on the mound with a .975 fielding percentage on the year; his only two errors on the season coming while he was behind the plate.
In 2011, the Yeomen look to make their first postseason appearance in the NCAC Playoffs, as they return a senior-laden class led by Brua on the mound. The national gold glove team will be announced at a later date.
