Oberlin, Ohio - Head Women's Basketball Coach
Kerry Jenkins announced that seniors
Syrea Thomas and
Christina Spencer will serve as the team captains for the 2010-2011 basketball season.
“We feel that both Christina and Syrea bring great leadership to an otherwise young team,” Jenkins said. “They both have been in the program through its ups and downs and we could not ask for two better players to lead this team.”
Spencer, a native of West Carrollton, Ohio, missed much of last season due to injury and illness, but will look to rebound this season. The 5-foot-6 guard will look to add depth to a backcourt of Thomas and returning NCAC Newcomer of the Year
Allison Anderson. Last season, she averaged just under 10 minutes per game in only 13 games.
Thomas, a native of Cleveland, Ohio, has been one of the most prolific 3-point shooters in Oberlin history. Last season, she was named All-NCAC Honorable Mention as she led the Yeowomen in scoring with 14 points per game. The 5-foot-5 guard finished the season eighth in the league in rebounding with 6.7 boards per game. The southpaw also finished fourth in the conference with 2.2 3-pointers per contest and trailed only Anderson with 38.2 minutes played per game.
The Yeowomen look forward to what should be an exciting 2010-2011 campaign as they return their top three scorers, all of which averaged double-digit points per game.
