Softball Places Three on All-NCAC Teams

Julia Chauvin, Brittany Dawson and Kristine Kuchta were honored by the NCAC.
Oberlin, Ohio - The Oberlin College Softball team had three Yeowomen garner all-conference accolades this season. Senior Julia Chauvin and first-year Brittany Dawson earned second-team honors, while sophomore Kristine Kuchta picked up honorable-mention accolades.

Chauvin, who was also named to the NFCA All-Region Third-Team, ends her career as one of the most prolific offensive players to come through the softball program. The Hillsborough, North Carolina native, who was also a 2007 honorable-mention selection, saved her best season for last, setting single season school records in batting average (.411), hits (46), RBIs (31), and total bases (68). She ends her career as the school leader in hits (121), doubles (28), triples (7), home runs (10), and RBIs (81).

Dawson added depth to the squad in the outfield and on the mound, although she saw a majority of her action in the outfield. The San Diego, California, native saved her best performances for games in conference as she led the team in hitting in NCAC play with a .486 average. She also paced the Yeowomen in on-base percentage (.538) and slugging percentage (.514) in league action.

Kuchta, who was also a 2009 All-NCAC Honorable Mention Selection, will look to fill the shoes of the departed Chauvin as the team's offensive leader. Her 38 hits this season were good for second on the team behind Chauvin, while her .342 average was good for third best. This season, she set the school's single season record for runs scored with 25.

The Yeowomen will head into their 2011 campaign relying heavily on the duo of Kuchta and Dawson to lead the team while replacing the departed senior class, one of the most decorated in school history.
