Delaware, Ohio – After two long days of fierce competition, the Oberlin Men's Track & Field team capped their season with a fourth place finish at the 2010 NCAC Championships. The Yeomen totaled 89 points, just four behind third place Allegheny; Ohio Wesleyan took first place with a grand total of 220.
The lone individual champion for Oberlin was sophomore
Shawn Chrapczynski who outstretched the field in the 200-meter dash. Chrapczynski's time of 22.48 was merely four hundredths of a second faster than Jake Eldridge of Ohio Wesleyan. The Oberlin sophomore also took home third place honors in the 100-meters in a time of 11.08 seconds.
Fellow sprinter
Seth Wimberly also ran fast for the Yeomen, finishing second in the 400-meter dash in a time of 49.41 seconds. The senior from Covington, Georgia scored again in the 200-meter dash as he finished 5th in a time of 22.95 seconds.
The top individual point scorer for the Yeomen was do-it-all thrower
Josh Gallagher. The junior placed in the top four in four different field events, scoring 27 of Oberlin's 89 points by virtue of some long tosses, strong puts, and a few hefty heaves. Gallagher's best events were matching runner-up finishes in the Discus Throw (45.57 meters) and the Hammer Throw (45.01 meters). Over the weekend, the West Harrison, New York native also finished 3rd in the Shot Put (14.83 meters) and 4th in the Javelin Throw (48.60 meters).
With the majority of their conference scorers returning next season, and a strong group of athletes on the cusp of breaking into the scoring column, the future is very bright for Oberlin's young and talented Track & Field squad.
