Men's Tennis Drops Opening Round Match at NCAC Championships

Final Results vs. Denison University - NCAC Quarterfinals

Gambier, Ohio – In the opening round of the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament the Oberlin College men's tennis team lost to the Central Region's eighth ranked team, 5-0. The Yeomen will continue through the draw with a match against Wittenberg University at 9 a.m. Sunday morning.

Clear skies and dry courts allowed today's match to be played outdoors. In doubles action the Yeomen hung close with Denison at the first and third positions. Ben Godlove and Ben Turchin faced off against the eighth ranked doubles squad of Matt McErlean and Nate Hobrath. The Yeomen duo were in the match until the end before falling 8-6
.
In the third position Joe Leffler and Sam Towne also dropped their match 8-6.

“We began doubles play really well and were right there. We are hoping we can carry those performances into tomorrow's match,” said Head Coach Adam Shoemaker.

Denison secured the win by taking straight set wins from the first and fourth singles slots. The Big Red's Tom Cawood is currently ranked 13th in the region as a singles player. He defeated Godlove6-2, 6-1.

Eliot Heaton hitting as the Yeomen's No. 4 fell to Evan Verbofsky 6-0, 6-0 for Denison to win earn the fifth team point.

Oberlin (3-21) will have a quick turnaround as they are back on the court Sunday morning squaring off against Wittenberg.
