Oberlin, Ohio – The Oberlin College men's lacrosse team used a powerful offense and stingy defense to upend the visiting Carthage College Red Men 17-10 on Sunday afternoon at Fred Shults Field.

Sophomore sensation Dylan Holmes continued to impress as he led the way with five scores. Senior Erik Strand racked up seven points on the day, finishing with two goals and five assists.

Thomas Hake and Rob Bond each found the back of the cage three times, while Alex Jacobs and Connor Jackson put in a pair of goals of their own.

The Yeomen (4-7) were in a dog fight early on as the score was tied at five after one quarter of play. However, in the second period the Yeomen defense really buckled down as they allowed the Red Men to trigger just three shots in the session, while adding five goals of their own to lead 10-6 at the break.

In the third in was more of the same as Carthage (7-5) netted just two goals, while Oberlin would add three more – one of those being a man-up goal by Holmes. OC finished the day 4-of-9 on man-up chances.

Leading 13-8 going into the final frame, the Yeomen kept the pressure on, adding four more scores with two coming courtesy of Hake.

Oberlin had a slight 35-33 edge in shots, but won the groundball battle 30-18. The Yeomen were also successful on 18-of-22 clear attempts.

The Yeomen return to action on Wednesday night when they play host to Kenyon College at 5:30 p.m.
