Oberlin, Ohio – The Oberlin College men's lacrosse team played a sound game throughout, but couldn't overcome a hot start by the visiting Wittenberg Tigers as they defeated the Yeomen 14-5 on Saturday afternoon at Fred Shults Field.
Freshman
Thomas Hake turned in a fine performance with two goals and two assists, while senior
Erik Strand also added a pair of scores to go along with one helper, eight groundballs and four face-off wins. Sophomore
Dylan Holmes cashed in the only other Yeomen score.
The Tigers (7-2, 2-0 NCAC) came out growling as they scored six times in the first period to gain control of the game. They would add two more scores to lead 8-1 at the break.
Glen Gerbush relieved
Jon Weisburst to start the second period and made 12 saves over the final 45 minutes of play.
Four of Oberlin's scores came in the fourth period as they continued to fight all the way to the end.
The Yeomen were out-shot 38-27 and lost the groundball battle by the slimmest of margins at 26-25. OC was successful on 19-of-27 clears.
Oberlin (2-6, 0-3 NCAC) goes right back to work on Wednesday evening when it travels to The College of Wooster for a 4:30 p.m. meeting.
