Oberlin, Ohio – The John W. Heisman Club of Oberlin College and the City of Oberlin have joined forces to host an Earth Day 5K Run and fitness event for families on Saturday, April 17, at 9 a.m. with the starting point being under the arch at Tappan Square.

In the past, the Heisman Club and the City of Oberlin have offered separate activities, but this year is different. The event will kick off at 9 a.m. with a 5K “Health Walk” though the neighborhoods of Oberlin. At 9:15, the kid's event will begin with a race/run around Tappan Square. The featured 5K race begins promptly at 10 am and will follow the same course as the walkers.

The City of Oberlin, led by Ian Yarber and Constance Ponder of the Recreation Department, has made a strong effort to promote health and wellness in the community, especially among the school aged children. Children will run for free and all of them will receive a medal for participating.

For adults, the registration fee is $10 and the first 75 registered individuals will receive a free tee shirt. It is asked that everyone bring a non-perishable food item or a household item to the race to be donated to Oberlin Community Services.

The Heisman Club is very proud to be part of this event,” Heisman Club President Carla White Freyvogel said. “We support the mission of the city which is to endorse and promote the celebration of the environment, good health and service to our community “.
