Fredonia, N.Y. –
Playing outside for the first time this season, the Oberlin College women's lacrosse team got off to a slow start, but improved as the game went on before succumbing to SUNY Fredonia 18-2 in the season opener for both teams on Tuesday afternoon.

First-year Molly Bloom scored Oberlin's first goal of the season as she cashed in an 8-meter attempt in the first half. Classmate Grace Amber would notch the only other Yeowomen score on the day.

“I felt we continued to learn as the game progressed and continued to make adjustments throughout,” Head Coach Deb Ranieri said. “We worked on improving the little things and I was happy with our transition play and passing, especially considering this was just the second time we have been on a full field this spring.”

Oberlin (0-1) was able to tighten up its defense in the second half with rookie Madeleine O'Meara spearheading the effort. The Cranbury, New Jersey, native recorded three interceptions and scooped up four groundballs in the final 30 minutes of play.

The Yeowomen return to action on March 19 when they play host to Waynesburg University at 4:30 p.m.
