Obelrin, Ohio – The Oberlin College men's tennis team, with a commanding 8-1 win over Heidelberg University notched their second win of the season.

The Yeomen set the tempo for the match early as they displaced all three Berg doubles pairings. An 8-0 win at No. 3 doubles by Sam Towne and Joe Leffler put a stamp on doubles action. The Bens are a perfect 5-0 in the No. 1 spot. Ben Godlove and Ben Turchin are at this point in the season untouchable as they defeated Bobby Lochotzki and Cliff Goetz 8-1.

“Our doubles effort was great and really started the match off right. The pairing at No. 3 of Towne and Leffler is working really well. They have formed a solid partnership,” commented head coach Adam Shoemaker.

OC (2-3) controlled the action through singles play only faltering at the No. 3 spot. In the top spot Godlove, who won in straight sets, was the lone Yeomen winner to drop more than three games to a Heidelberg opponent.

Towne put in a good effort in the fourth slot earning a 6-2, 6-1 victory to get back in the win column. Jon Wachtel, inserted into the lineup at No. 6 defeated Tim Hanes 6-1, 6-1.

Shoemaker added, “This was a good team performance from the top of the lineup down and should prove to be a good tune up for our conference match against Ohio Wesleyan on Saturday.”

The Yeomen find themselves back on the court Saturday when they visit OWU in a conference match scheduled for a 3 p.m. start.
