Final Results vs. Malone
Oberlin, Ohio – The Oberlin College women's tennis team began the spring portion of their season in fine fashion earning wins against Baldwin-Wallace College and Malone University today.
In the morning match the Yeowomen used two wins during doubles action to edge out a lead earning a 5-4 team victory. The sophomore duo of
Ariel Lewis and
Finley Gates were 8-4 winners over Caitlyn Pecinovksy and Rebecca Miller.
Lewis and Gates were double winners today each claiming victories at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively. It was
Rebecca Brown's No. 5 singles match that claimed the fifth and decisive point for Oberlin. Brown lost her first set to Andrea Essig before storming back to second and third set by identical 6-0 counts.
Head coach
Constantine Ananiadis said, “I am proud of our performances today. We are doing well at this early stage in the season. The girls put in good efforts and Rebecca's match was really important. It was good for us to get a win over a quality team like B-W.”
Oberlin closed the day defeating Malone University 9-0. The Yeowomen cruised to wins almost every match. Lewis was challenged by the Pioneers' Alanna Phillips in the opening set before she pulled out a 7-5, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles.
Sophomore
Carolyn Ball earned her first collegiate win tonight defeating Savannah McDaniel (6-1, 6-0) in the sixth slot. Ball joined the team this spring and is following in the footsteps of her father, a former Oberlin men's tennis player.
The Yeowomen return to the court February 17 when they host the Spartans of Case Western Reserve University in a match slated to start at 6:30 p.m. in John W. Heisman Field House.
