Box Score

Oberlin, Ohio – The Oberlin College women's basketball team put forth a great effort, but in the end they fell just short as the visiting Adrian College Bulldogs spoiled New Year's Eve for the Yeowomen with a 65-60 win.

The OC attack was spearheaded by potential NCAC Player of the Year Allison Anderson. The sophomore point guard racked up 22 points on 8-of-16 shooting – including a season-high 5-of-8 performance from downtown. The Springfield, Illinois, native also dished out a game-high seven assists.

Fellow sophomore Ellen Neumann had a great night inside as she registered her first-career double-double with 12 points and a career-high 11 rebounds.

Oberlin, which trailed by 10, 37-27, at that half found itself down just six, 56-50, with just under six minutes to play. That is when the Yeowomen got a lift from an unlikely source as Head Coach Kerry Jenkins inserted senior Christina Spencer into the game for the first time all night and the move provided instant dividends. The West Carrolton, Ohio, native immediately buried a deep three from the corner for her first field goal of the season and later followed with a 15-foot jumper from the wing to make it 56-55 game with 3:20 to go.

A pair of Jenn Headley charity tosses would make it a 60-56 Bulldogs advantage at the 1:42 mark, but Neumann would follow with a pair of her own to keep it a one possession game. Following another Headley freebie – to make it 61-58 - and missed Oberlin lay-up, Headley went up for a lay-up and missed, but she got her own rebound with just 26 seconds to go which forced OC to foul. The Bulldogs would go own to make 3-of-5 free throws down the stretch to improve their record to 3-7 on the year.

Oberlin, which fell to 4-7 with the loss, shot 35 percent (21-of-60) on the night and also hurt itself with just an 11-of-17 (64.7%) effort from the stripe. Adrian knocked down 19-of-25 (76%) free throws and shot 37.7 percent (20-of-53) from the floor.

The Yewomen will look to get back on track when they travel to Kalamazoo College on Monday night. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
