Series Information ...
Oberlin trails the all-time series against the Little Giants 1-12-1 … The Little Giants have left victorious 12 straight times against the Yeomen, with the last Oberlin win coming in the first meeting between the schools in 1945, when the Yeomen upended Wabash 32-7 … The lone tie came two years later when the schools battled to a 7-7 stalemate … In the 2009 matchup, Oberlin played arguably their best half of football to that point in the season as they trailed the nationally ranked Little Giants only 7-3 at halftime … Wabash, however, came storming out of the locker room to leave Savage Stadium with a 41-9 victory … Freshman wide receiver Robin Witjes earned Co-Heisman Club Player of the Game honors as he accounted for 181 total yards with 39 yards receiving, 103 kick return yards and a 39-yard touchdown pass to Adam Niec … The defense was led by Co-Heisman Club Player of the Game Solomon Turner, who led the Yeomen with a career-high 14 tackles … The Yeomen defense also finished with a season-best seven tackles for a loss in the game, including three sacks.

Scouting the Little Giants …

The Little Giants come into Saturday's matchup following a tough 24-20 loss to Washington University … Wabash, however, is currently outscoring their opponents 157-79, averaging just over 31 points per game (2nd in NCAC), while only giving up 15.8 points (3rd in NCAC) … Wabash is led by sophomore quarterback Chase Belton, who is completing 66 percent of his passes and has also rushed for 240 yards on three touchdowns … Belton's top target is junior wideout Jonathan Horn who has hauled in 33 catches for 502 yards and four of Belton's eight touchdown passes … Horn is averaging over 100 yards receiving per game, good for third best in the conference … Defensively, the Little Giants are led by senior linebacker CJ Gum and junior defensive back Sam Smith … Gum leads the team with 39 total tackles and five tackles for a loss … Smith leads a stout secondary with two interceptions to go along with four pass breakups and two blocked kicks.

Steel Toe …

Senior placekicker Zach Richard has been fantastic this season at getting the Yeomen points once they enter opponent territory … Last week against Case, Richard converted a career long 41-yard field goal at the end of the first half to bring the Yeomen within 35-30 at halftime … Richard is now 4-of-4 on field goal attempts for the season … However, Richard and the rest of the special teams will need to be at the top of their game this week as Wabash has already blocked seven kicks in only five games this season.

Controlling the Clock …

The Yeomen offense has been great at sustaining long drives to wear down opposing defenses … Oberlin currently sits atop the NCAC in time of possession as they are controlling the ball for over 33 minutes per game … With the potent Wabash offense on the sideline, ball control may once again be the best defense against the Little Giants on Saturday.

Eaton Quarterbacks …
Sophomore defensive end Clay Eaton earned NCAC Player of the Week honors following his career day against the Spartans last Saturday … The Findlay, Ohio native racked up a career high eight tackles to go along with four sacks, three tackles for a loss, and a forced fumble against Case … His four sacks tie Chris Pisani for second most in a single game in school history, trailing only Sam Hobi who registered five in a game in 2001 … Eaton currently sits at second in the NCAC with five sacks on the season averaging one per game … Look for Eaton to make a huge impact on the game as he will look to stifle the Little Giant passing attack.

Early and Often …
The Yeomen and Little Giant offenses currently sit second and third in the conference in most offensive categories including scoring offense, total offense, and passing offense … On the flip side, Wabash sits among the league leaders on defense as well ranking third in both scoring defense and total defense, while the Yeomen sit at the bottom of the conference giving up nearly 31 points per game and 414 yards of total offense … The Little Giants are dominating opponents in the first quarter of games … In five games, Wabash is shutting opponents out in the first quarter … However, it was the same situation last week against the Spartans, but the Yeomen didn't let that prevent them from scoring 21 first-quarter points … Look for the Yeomen offense to get off to a quick start this week as well as they will need to score early and often if they want to snap their 12-game skid against Wabash.

Stopping the Big Play …

Although most of Case's scores came from within the redzone, the Spartans utilized the big play to get into the redzone against the Yeomen defense … Against the Spartans, the Yeomen gave up seven plays that covered 20+ yards including two that covered over 40 yards … They also had five scoring drives that lasted 1:35 or less … If the Yeomen want to stop the potent Little Giant offense, they will need to prevent the big play, especially that of Jonathan Horn, their outstanding wide receiver.
