Joanna Johnson was the top Division III finisher as she led the Oberlin College women's cross country team to a second-place finish at the All-Ohio Championships on Friday afternoon.
Johnson completed the 5k trek in just 17:40.4, claiming the top spot by 23 seconds. In fact the Chico, California, native finished sixth overall in the field that featured 277 runners from Divisions I, II and III.
The Yeowomen, who registered 68 points as team, ended just eight points back of Case Western Reserve.
“We were very happy with the result, but still obviously wish we could have won the event,” Head Coach
Ray Appenheimer said. “We got Case last time out and they got us this time. However, we will have our chance to beat them again when they come here for the Rumble.”
First-year
Molly Martorella continued to impressive season by placing fifth overall with a mark of 18:13.0.
Sophomore sensation and 2009 NCAC Newcomer of the Year
Sara Terashima came through the chute in 18:52.2, earning ninth place.
The second-year paring of
Kristina Witcher and
Caroline Martin rounded out the Oberlin placers in 26th and 27th place, respectively. Witcher stopped the clock 19:16.7, while Martin followed closely behind at 19:19.7.
The Oberlin harriers will host the Third-Annual Inter-Regional Rumble on October 16.
