Oberlin, Ohio – The first-year 1-2 punch of
Allison Anderson and
Kelly Warlich combined for 42 points to help the Oberlin College women's basketball team earn a 57-51 come-from-behind victory over Earlham College on Saturday afternoon.
Anderson, who has scored at least 15 points in each of the last four games, finished with 23 points to go along with six steals, six assists and six rebounds. Warlich dialed in on 5-of-8 triple-tries as she finished with 19 points and one rebound shy of her fourth double-double of the season with nine boards.
Oberlin (4-15, 3-7 NCAC) trailed by 12, 34-22, with 18:35 left to play, but a 19-4 run that featured four Warlich triple-hits would put the Yewomen on top 41-38 at the 13:05 mark.
From then on the game was played very closely and a lay-up by Earlham's Kate Franks would get her team within one, 52-51, with just over two minutes to play. At that time little did anyone know that those would by the last two points scored by the Quakers. Oberlin would add insurance tallies in the closing moments as
Emily Chu Finkel sandwiched a lay-up in-between two pairs of Anderson free throws.
“This was another very nice win for us as we battled back through some adversity in the first half and were able to finish the job,” second-year Head Coach
Kerry Jenkins said.
The win snapped a three-game skid for the Yeowomen and improved Jenkins' record to 4-0 all-time against the Quakers.
After a slow shooting first half (26.5%), Oberlin shot a blistering 56.5-percent (13-of-23) in the second session – including 6-of-9 (66.7%) from long range. Earlham (2-17, 1-9 NCAC) shot 34.4-percent (21-of-61) in the contest.
Oberlin will look to make it two in a row when it travels out to Ohio Wesleyan University on Tuesday night. Tip-time is set for 7 p.m.
