Swimming Completes Perfect Weekend

One day after beating John Carroll University in a dual meet, both Oberlin College swimming and diving teams were winners again on Saturday as the Yeomen and Yeowomen each beat Notre Dame College and Ohio Wesleyan University on Saturday afternoon at Robert Carr Pool.

Using invitational style scoring, the Yeowomen registered 685 points while the Falcons checked in second with 444 points and the Bishops in third with 341 points. The Yeomen recorded 519.5 points with Ohio Wesleyan coming in second with 489 points. NDC tallied 291.5 points in the meet.

“This was a great way to end our regular season and prepare us for the conference meet,” Head Coach Mark Fino said. “Both teams really performed well and responded nicely with having a meet yesterday.”

On day when she and the other three seniors were honored before the meet, Laura Fries was a part of three wins - taking the 100-yard back in 1:01.69 and 200-yard back in 2:12.35. She also swam the leadoff leg of the winning 200-yard medley relay team (1:55.64).

Sophomore Grace Aheron once again recorded multiple wins as she touched in first in both the 200-yard fly (2:12.11) and 400-yard IM (4:45.19).

Junior Sara Kadi joined both Fries and Aheron on the 200-yard medley relay. She also added wins in the 100-yard free (55.61) and 100-yard fly (1:01.24).

Shannon Gallagher the other senior female swimmer won the 50-yard free in 26.18 and swam the anchor leg of the victorious 200-yard medley relay.

The Yeowomen also got wins from Kelsey Sherman (1000-yard free/11:28.90); Lily Wennberg (200-yard free/2:06.61); Jane McIntyre (200-yard breast/2:37.68); and Kate Melanson (500-yard free/5:28.63).

On the guy's side, sophomore sensation Nick Lashway was a part of five total wins on the day as he was a member of both 800-yard free relay (7:31.57) and 200-yard medley (1:39.75) teams. The Leeds, Massachusetts, native also bested the field in the 200-yard free (1:50.25), 200-yard back (2:03.20) and 400-yard IM (4:21.64).

Second-year swimmer Dimitri Macris added a win in the 1000-yard free as he completed the course in 10:58.97.

Junior Corey Spiro was victorious in the 100-yard fly with a mark of 55.89 and freshman James Foust won the 100-yard free in 50.18.

Male senior swimmers Dan Holm and Jacob Wishart were also recognized before the meet.

Oberlin will now prepare itself for the NCAC Championship Meet, which runs from February 11 through the 13th at the C.T. Branin Natatorium in Canton, Ohio.
