Oberlin Soccer Drops Close Game at Alma

Oberlin outshot Alma 10-8, but came up short on the road
Box Score

Alma, Michigan –
The Oberlin Women's Soccer team traveled to the only state in the nation that touches four of the five great lakes, where they dropped a defensive, non-conference contest to the Scots of Alma College, 1-0.

With just two games remaining before the Yeowomen open up conference play, Oberlin was looking to recapture the offense that poured in 11 goals in a 2-1 week that wrapped up just six days ago. After dominating the action in the first half against Alma, neither team was able to put the ball across the goal line.

The Scots used a resurgent second half to gain more ball control, but it was the Yeowomen who continued to dictate much of the play on the field. Alma was able to score once in the second half and that proved to be the game-winner.

Head Coach Kristen Hayden said, “You have to give them credit for finding a way to get a goal. They were able to do what we couldn't today and that was simply to finish the game. Veronica Fusco and Lois Immerman both played terrific for us, but we need to learn how to finish, so that we can come out on the other end of these games once we get into conference play.”

Oberlin out shot the Scots 10-8 on the day, but the scoreboard read, Alma 1, Oberlin 0 when the final horn sounded. Oberlin will play one more non-conference opponent before heading into North Coast Athletic Conference action at Earlham College next Saturday. Their next game will be at home on Tuesday night under the lights against Bluffton College (7 pm start).
