Oberlin, Ohio – Despite controlling the run of play for nearly the whole game, which included a 26-12 shot advantage, the Oberlin College women's soccer team was unable to come away with a win on Sunday afternoon as they tied Hanover College 2-2 in double overtime.

“This is really disappointing that we were unable to get a win today,” Head Coach Kristen Hayden said. “We really out-played them throughout the game and to not be able to finish them off is a little deflating.”

The Panthers struck first just under 10 minutes into the game as Christa Hurak cashed in a breakaway opportunity for the visitors.

However, in the 23rd minute, rookie Hannah Combe netted her first collegiate goal – heading in a picture perfect corner kick service into the box by Ryan McChesney.

Hanover would push another goal past Oberlin keeper Christie Zelnik to lead 2-1 at the break.

The Yeowomen had multiple chances score in the second half as they fired off 14 shots with two attempts hitting off the cross bar, including one by Katy Holihan in the 75th minute. The constant offensive pressure by the Yewomen finally paid off with just six minutes left in regulation as Liza Marshall bounced the ball over the keepers head from about 28-yards out to tie the game.

No team had a real legitimate scoring threat in the extra time.

In the game, Oberlin fired off 11 shots on goal, but give Panthers' keeper Jayme Carney credit as she made nine saves on the afternoon. Both of Hanover's shots on goal went for scores in the first half.

The Yeowomen also had a 6-0 edge on corner kicks. Senior Sarah Grabinski made her season debut in goal in the second half, but was never really tested by the Panthers.

Oberlin returns to action on Tuesday afternoon at Muskingum College. The first touch is set for 4:30 p.m.
