Fans Vote Lewis Athlete of the Year

Oberlin, Ohio – The result are in! In a record tally of votes on the goyeo.com poll question, the fans have voted first-year women's tennis phenom Ariel Lewis as their Oberlin College Athlete of the Year.

Lewis garnered over 200 total votes and 36 percent of the 578 votes placed. Quarterback Greg Mangan (28 %/164 votes) and swimmer Scott McInerney (20 %/116) placed second and third respectively.

Lewis, a native of Vacaville, California, was simply sensational in her rookie season for the Yeowomen, winning NCAC Player and Newcomer of the Year honors. She also became the first women's tennis player since 2001 to compete at the NCAA Individual Championships.

Lewis, who could move up from 10th in the final ITA Central Region rankings that will be released next Tuesday, finished the season with a remarkable 25-8 overall record and a 21-3 mark in dual-matches at the No. 1 position.

During middle portion of the season she ripped off a 10-match winning streak and followed with eight straight wins to end the season, before getting upended at nationals.

Lewis and teammate Finley Gates also added 11 doubles wins on the season as they were named a Second-Team All-NCAC doubles pairing.
