Marietta, Ohio – After qualifying fifth on Thursday with a time of 4:35.19 in the 1,500 meters, senior
Nicky Ouellet turned in a disappointing run of 4:42.87 on Saturday to finish in 11th place in the event at the NCAA Championships.
“I am a little heartbroken for Nicky,” director of track and field
Ray Appenheimer said. “She competed hard all year long, but just picked the wrong day to not have her best stuff. However, she still had an amazing season and career for us, and she will surely be missed next year.”
Junior teammate
Madeline Schultz also finished the final three events of the heptathlon on Friday to end 17th overall with 4,179 points. The Concord, Massachusetts, native clocked in an impressive time of 2:21.94 in the 800 meters – finishing fourth in the event.
“Maddie did a great job competing against the best competition in the country,” Appenheimer added. “I was pleased with her performances and hope she has a chance to return next year to improve even more.”
Schultz and the rest of the Yeomen and Yeowomen will begin the 2009-10 indoor season in the late fall.
