Washington, Pa. – Rookie goalie
Emily Perry recorded 21 saves and Oberlin got multiple goals from three different players, but it wasn't enough as the Yeowomen fell to Washington & Jefferson 19-11 in women's lacrosse action on Wednesday night.
Sophomore
Taylor Fey led the OC attack with five goals, while
Ariel Schuster and
Dana Rich added three scores apiece.
Rosanne Alexandre-Leach also had a strong game as she controlled the midfield, while winning three draw controls on the night.
“We are getting better, but we still need to take more shots,” head coach Deb Ranieri said. “We need to do a better job of possessing the ball and run our offense more effectively.”
With the score tied at one, the Presidents took control for the rest of the half and built a 10-4 advantage at the break.
Washington & Jefferson (3-6) continued its pressure in the second half by scoring the first three goals of the stanza and maintained a comfortable lead the rest of the way.
Despite being doubled-up on shots 42-21, Oberlin hung tight in the ground ball battle as the Presidents finished with a slight 22-19 edge. The two teams were also dead even with 16 draw controls each. Fey and Rich each had five wins on the draw to lead the way for the Yeowomen.
Oberlin (0-8) will return home to host Adrian on Saturday at high noon.
