Oberlin, Ohio –
Seniors Michelle Zanni and Ruth Allanbrook were honored for their contributions to the Oberlin College softball program, but the Ohio Wesleyan Battling Bishops spoiled the celebration by taking both ends of an NCAC doubleheader by the scores of 10-2 and 11-3 on Saturday afternoon.

The Yeowomen, who played their last home games of the season today, were able to hang around early in both games, but in the end the Bishops offense was too tough to stop.

In the lid-lifter, OWU (22-11-1, 7-3 NCAC) plated a pair of runs in each of the first two innings, but Oberlin bounced back with two of its own in the bottom of the second. Lauren Luther got the rally started with a double to right center and scored on a two-out opposite field single to right by Katie Baldoneri. Fellow rookie Kristine Kuchta would then send Baldoneri home with a base hit back up the middle.

Unfortunately in the fourth inning, the Bishops put together a two-out rally – using four hits and one OC error to score three runs. Ashley Allen added three-run home run in the fifth to seal the win.

In game two, Zanni, Kuchta and Baldoneri would all have two hits, and Oberlin would score first on an RBI single by Sara Gaines, but the Bishops posted crooked numbers in four of the game's six innings.

After Gaines run-scoring single in the first, OWU scored two in the second and three in the third to lead 5-1.

Oberlin (6-26, 1-13 NCAC) would get back into the ball game in the fifth on a two-run single to center by Zanni, but would get no closer as two runs in the fifth and four in the sixth for the Bishops put the game out of reach.

Baldoneri finished the twinbill 3-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI, while Kuchta turned in a 4-for-7 effort to go along with a run, RBI and team-high five total bases.

Oberlin will conclude its season tomorrow at Heidelberg College. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
