Oberlin, Ohio –
The Oberlin College softball team fell to Hiram College by the scores of 9-3 and 16-8 in a North Coast Athletic Conference doubleheader on Thursday afternoon.

The Yeowomen and Terriers were originally slated to do battle on the campus of Hiram, but unplayable field conditions moved the game to the OC Softball Complex. However, despite playing on their home field, Oberlin was the designated visiting team for both games.

In the nightcap, the Yeowomen tied a season-high with 11 hits. Junior Julia Chauvin spearheaded the attack by going 2-for-2 with a double and a home run to go along with four RBI. Senior Ruth Allanbrook, and rookies Kristine Kuchta and Kristen Dix matched Chauvin with a pair of hits.

Oberlin pushed a run across in the first, but Hiram came out swinging to post seven in the home-half of the inning. The Yeowmen would battle back with three runs in the third on an RBI double by Sara Gaines and Chauvin's two-run shot to make it 7-4.

The Terriers (20-13, 7-3 NCAC) bounced back with four of their own to lead 11-4. However, Oberlin's never-say-die attitude shined through – using four hits and two Hiram errors for four runs in the fourth which featured a home run by Lauren Luther.

Unfortunately, the Terriers offense was just as relentless as they scored five runs over the next two innings to put the game out of reach.

In the lid-lifter, the Terriers were able to score six runs over the first three innings to set the tone for the day.

Senior Michelle Zanni was 3-for-4 with three RBI, and Sophie Schacht along with Gaines, Kuchta, Chauvin and Allanbrook would add hits of their own, but Oberlin's only runs came in the fifth inning on a bases-loaded triple by Zanni.

The big knock by the senior from Struthers, Ohio, got the Yeowomen back into the game at 6-3, but Hiram would post three runs of their own in the bottom of the inning to secure the win.

Oberlin will play its final home games of the season on Saturday against Ohio Wesleyan. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
