New Wilmington, Pa. – A late second half push wasn't enough as the Oberlin College men's basketball team fell on the road to Westminster College 67-60 on Sunday afternoon.

The Yeomen had four players score in double figures with sophomore Marcus Johnson leading the way with 16 points. Rookies Andrew Fox and Johnathan Nelson netted 12 points of their own, while junior James Tompsett also posted 12 points on a very efficient 5-of-6 shooting.

Oberlin (2-3) trailed by 12, 53-41, with 8:18 left to play, but locked down defensively to crawl all the way back and tie the game at 57 with 2:21 left to play. Unfortunately, the Yeomen would net just one field goal the rest of the way, while the Titans went 8-of-10 at the free throw line during the closing moments to secure the win.

The free throw line is really where the game was decided as the Yeomen shot a season-low 51.6-percent at the stripe, converting just 16-of-31 charity tosses. OC also struggled from long range, knocking down just 2-of-15 triple-tries (13.3%). All-in-all the Yeomen shot 43.8-percent (21-of-48) from the floor.

Oberlin started the game by quickly building a 9-2 edge at the 15:27 mark of the opening half, but with the score tied at 20 with just over five minutes left in the frame the Titans ripped off a 10-3 run to claim a 30-23 halftime advantage.

The Titans (1-3) were led by Max Spinner and Adam Carswell as they combined to score 35 points. Westminster shot 50-percent (24-of-48) from the floor and 65.2-percent (15-of-23) at the free throw line.

The Yeomen won the battle of the boards 34-31 and scored 13 second chance points compared to just six for the Titans. The Oberlin bench bunch also outscored its counterparts 18-10.

Oberlin will look to bounce back on Wednesday night when Hiram College comes to town for the NCAC opener. The opening tip is set for 7:30 p.m.
