Waynesburg, Pa. –
The Oberlin College men's basketball team notched its first road win of the season, knocking of Waynesburg College 63-51 on Tuesday night at the Marisa Fieldhouse.

The Yeomen were led by rookie sensation Andrew Fox as he notched his first-career double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Junior James Tompsett also had a strong night as he matched career-highs in points (13) and rebounds (7). Sophomores Josh Merritt and Marcus Johnson added 12 and 10 points, respectively.

“We did a good job of using our size tonight, getting to the free throw line 32 times and also winning the rebounding battle really helped us control the tempo of the game,” Head Coach Isaiah Cavaco said. “We had five guys with nine or more points and that is the balance we need in order to be successful.”

Oberlin (2-2) got off to a slow start as the Yellow Jackets built an 11-4 advantage four minutes into the game. The Yeomen's first lead of the game didn't come until the 6:01 mark of the first half when freshman Johnathan Nelson converted two of his nine points at the free throw line. The first 20 minutes featured seven ties and five lead changes, but the Yeomen claimed a 30-28 edge at the break.

The Yeomen started the second half with a vengeance, using a 16-4 run out of the locker room to build a 46-32 edge with 11:20 left to play. The Yellow Jackets fought back to get within eight, 54-46, with just under four minutes to play, but Oberlin was clutch down stretch – cashing in 7-of-8 free throws in the final 1:34 to preserve the win.

The Yeomen used their distinct size advantage to out-rebound the Yellow Jackets 42-25, while also outscoring them in the paint 34-18.

Oberlin converted 26-of-32 charity tosses (81.3%) and shot 42.9-percent (18-of-42) from the floor.

The Yeomen return to the hardwood on Sunday afternoon when they travel to Westminster College for a clash with the Titans. The opening tip is set for 3 p.m.
