Box Score
Chicago, Ill. – The Oberlin College men's basketball shot just 26.7-percent from the field as they fell to the North Central Cardinals 70-38 on Friday night in the windy city.
The Yeomen, who had five players score in double figures in a season-opening win last Sunday against Mount Aloysius, had just one on this night with rookie
Andrew Fox netting 12 points on 4-of-6 shooting. Sophomore
Josh Merritt added eight points while classmate
Marcus Johnson added seven of his own. Merritt tied
James Tompsett with a team-high six boards.
The Cardinals jumped out to a quick 10-0 led, before Oberlin (1-1) got on the board on a Fox triple-hit three minutes into the game. Unfortunately, the Yeomen couldn't get anything going as they trailed 37-16 at the break.
Just four-and-a-half minutes into the second session, North Central would extend its lead to 25 and never look back.
The hustle stats were dominated by the victors - with a 12-0 edge on second chance points and 29-9 advantage in points off the bench. Oberlin turned it over 16 times – resulting in 15 points for the Cardinals.
The 38 points scored by Oberlin is the lowest total since November 17, 2007 when they deposited just 35 against Haverford College.
The Yeomen will look to bounce back tomorrow afternoon when they battle Lakeland College in the consolation game of the North Central Holiday Inn Tip-off Tournament. All the action is set to begin at 3:30 p.m. EST.
