Wooster, Ohio – The Oberlin College field hockey team had a strong second half, but it wasn't enough to get by The College of Wooster as the Yeowomen fell to the Scots 6-2 on Thursday afternoon.

“We played much better in the second half and did a lot of things well,” Head Coach Deb Ranieri said. “Each game we have been continuing to improve and get more comfortable as a team.”

The Scots scored five of their six goals in the first half, putting the Yeowomen in huge hole, but Oberlin battled back to outscore Wooster 2-1 over the final 35 minutes of play.

Kiri Brenner notched her first goal of the year to get Oberlin on the board with the assist coming from Gillian Winbourn. Winbourn was also the helper on the Yeowomen's second goal of the game as she aided Emily Whitaker on her team-leading fifth goal of the season.

Rookie Kiran Puri played all 70 minutes in the cage, making a career-high 19 saves – 13 of which came in the first half. Also contributing to the strong defensive effort was Sonya Kaufman with two defensive saves, while Natasha Cohan added one of her own.

Oberlin fired off 14 shots, while Wooster triggered 28 attempts in the contest. The Scots also had a 12-7 edge on penalty corners.

Oberlin returns home on Saturday to host Earlham College as part of Homecoming Weekend. All of the action is set to begin at noon.
