Richmond, Ind. – Earlham College scored just before the first half horn and that was all it needed to get past the Oberlin College women's soccer team 1-0 in the North Coast Athletic Conference opener for both teams on Saturday afternoon.
“We didn't really play our game at all today,” Head Coach Kristen Hayden said. “It was disappointing that we came out here and were not ready to play in our first conference game.”
It was Cate Simmermaker's goal that was the difference in the match as she scored at the 42:13 mark of the opening half with an assist coming from Faye Rowell.
The Quakers controlled the match throughout as they fired off 14 shots compared to just four for the Yeowomen. Five of Earlham's attempts were on goal, while two shots for Oberlin were on target.
Sarah Grabinski played all 90 minutes in the cage and finished with four saves.
Oberlin will look to bounce on Wednesday night when Denison University comes to town for a 7 p.m. tilt.
