Westerville, Ohio - The Oberlin men's tennis team made short work of Otterbein College on Saturday afternoon as they topped the Cardinals 8-1.
“We played a great match today,” Head Coach Adam Shoemaker said. “Everyone was focused and did a good job of playing clean, smart tennis.”
Senior
Ben Godlove had his way with Otterbein's Ryan Catanese in the No. 1 singles match-up, coming away with a straight set win 6-0, 6-4.
Freshman Ben Thurchin played at No. 2 and knocked off Tyler Brodhead 6-2, 6-3.
Eliot Heaton won at No. 4 6-1, 6-2 over Ryan Roberts and
Peter Meckel followed in the No. 5 position with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Brian Pollock.
Sophomore
Sam Towne completed the pack of Oberlin winners with a 4-6, 6-1, 10-4 win over Jon Smith at No. 6 singles.
Oberlin also went unblemished in doubles play as
Joe Leffler partnered with Godlove to beat Cantanese and Broadhead 8-3.
Heaton and Meckel also won by an 8-3 count over Steven Albert and Jason Wagner.
At No. 3 doubles it was Pedar Davis and Turchin triumphing over Pollock and Smith.
Oberlin now has the rest of the fall off, before kicking off its traditional spring season on February 13.
