Oberlin, Ohio – Ohio Wesleyan's Chelsea Keller scored 15 seconds into overtime to steal away a 1-0 victory over the Oberlin College women's soccer team in the home finale for the Yeowomen on Wednesday night.
“I thought we played a good game and really kept them in check throughout,” Head Coach Kristen Hayden said. “Unfortunately, they made a nice play at the end there to get that goal in. I am happy with the way we have played all year and wish we could have pulled this one out tonight.”
The game-winner came quickly after the overtime restart as the Bishops pushed the ball immediately up the far side with Makinzie Krebsbach sending the service to the middle of the box for Keller to finish off.
After a slow paced first half for both teams, Oberlin picked up the tempo to fire off six shots over the final 45 minutes of regulation compared to just two in the first half.
The Yeowomen had promising scoring opportunities from
Lori Sako in the second half, but her breakaway attempt flew wide of the net, while another hoist of her right foot was saved by OWU keeper Margot Klepetko. Rookie
Hannah Combe also had her header try off a corner kick turned away by Klepetko.
Playing in her final home game, senior
Sarah Grabinski kept Oberlin in the match all night long with six saves.
The Bishops finished the game with 16 shots with seven coming on goal, while the Yeowomen got off eight attempts with three being on target. OWU also finished the game with an 8-1 edge on corner kicks.
Oberlin concludes its season on Saturday afternoon when it travels to Hiram for a 3:30 p.m. tilt.
